About CREAP:

CREAP is the Canadian Regional Economic Analysis Project.

The major activity of CREAP is the assembly and distribution of a microconsistent provincial data set for Canada. We also make a corresponding CGE model (written in MPSGE) available.

Please note: rd4, a recursively dynamic model will soon be available.

Background

In 2001, SSHRC funded a project under the Federalism and Federations Strategic Initiative. The title was "Federalism and Environmental Taxation: The Case of Carbon Taxes" and the major goal was to look at climate-change policy in a federal--provincial context. In other words, a main goal was to look at climate change economics in the context of a well-specified provincial CGE model with federal and provincial governments identified. As part of the grant, we proposed to make our data and model available to Canadian academic users over the internet. This web site is the avenue for distributing our model and data.

The current main contributors to CREAP are Trien Nguyen (Waterloo), Tracy Snoddon (Wilfrid Laurier) and Randall Wigle (Wilfrid Laurier). Griffin Carpenter (WLU), Krista Phillips (SFU), Pahan Prasada (Guelph) and Kelly Wu (WLU) are students who helped us on earlier versions.

Access is provided only to Canadian academics and graduate students covered by Statistics Canada's Data Liberation Initiative. The DLI covers most university faculty and staff. Use of the files is limited to academic research and teaching purposes. Users not covered by the DLI will need to acquire a license from the IO Division at Statistics Canada.

A second part of our plan is to invite contributors to help us improve the quality of the data set and add detail to it. Interested contributors or users of the data should contact either Randy Wigle or Tracy Snoddon

Suggestions and offers of assistance are always welcome.
